The Phoenix Suns have revealed three new jersey designs for the 2013-14 season.

The designs, which were revealed at a fashion show in Scottsdale on Thursday night, include a white home jersey, a purple away jersey and a sleeved orange alternate jersey – similar to the one worn by the Golden State Warriors last season.

The new-look jerseys feature a simplified modern take on the iconic “Sunburst” Phoenix jerseys popularised in the Charles Barkley era.

The white home jersey features an orange capitalised “SUNS” across the chest, with orange “sun rays” emanating from the player’s number – which is black.

The purple away jersey has “Phoenix” printed across the chest in white, with white “sun rays” emanating from an orange player’s number.

Meanwhile, the sleeved alternates make Phoenix the second team to adopt sleeved jerseys since the Golden State Warriors introduced their yellow alternates last season.

Phoenix’s new orange alternate include “Suns” written in white across the chest, and white “sun rays” next to black playing numbers.

Last season, the Suns tried to ease into a transitional phase after the departure of Steve Nash. However, the signings of Michael Beasley, Shannon Brown, Luis Scola and Goran Dragic was never going to be enough to keep Phoenix competitive in the Western Conference.

Now facing a true rebuilding stage, the Suns have a new GM – Ryan McDonough, a new head coach, Jeff Hornacek, and have begun to acquire young talent and draft picks for the coming years – Eric Bledsoe, Alex Len, Archie Goodwin etc.

McDonough has made it clear his time in charge of the Suns front office will have more direction than that of former GM Lance Banks. Banks’ tenure in charge will be remembered for his tendency to overpay role players in a vein attempt to keep a competitive squad around Nash, while also burning every draft pick he made and leaving the Suns with no rebuilding plan.

The Suns new GM acknowledges that sometimes you need to hit bottom before you can head upwards again.

So what better way to introduce a new era in Phoenix than with a new look?
