Western Conference representatives Damian Lillard and Trey Burke bested East duo Victor Oladipo and Michael Carter-Williams by one tenth of a second to take home the Taco Bell Skills Challenge Trophy.
In the closest finish in Skills Challenge history, Trey Burke’s lay-up fell through the hoop with one tenth of a second to spare as the Western duo completed the course in 45.2 seconds.
Eastern rookie pair Victor Oladipo and Michael Carter-Williams could do nothing but watch as their time of 45.3 was beaten by the narrowest of margins. The two youngsters will be ruing several missed passes and shots that cost them valuable time.
Damian Lillard, competing in his first of three events at All-Star Saturday, takes home the trophy for the second consecutive year.
In the qualifying rounds, West representatives Goran Dragić and Reggie Jackson (42.3 seconds) were eliminated by the eventual champs after Jackson appeared to coast through the obstacles. Dragić picked up the tempo during his run at the course, but it was not enough to make the final.
Raptors’ All-Star DeMar DeRozan and Bucks’ athletic rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo wowed the crowd with some emphatic finishes at the rim, but their time of 45.0 seconds failed to see them through to the championship round.
